Welcome to Terry Kirkwood’s art web site, which illustrates a wide variety of original artwork along with limited edition and open edition prints. Terry has built up a formidable reputation for her contemporary equestrian paintings reflecting her passion for the elegance, action and spirit of the horse. Attendance at many world class equestrian events over the years has provided fresh inspiration for her contemporary equestrian paintings, while her quirky cat studies have often been the result of a lifetime of capturing that magic moment with her own cats. Her versatility as a professional fine artist is well illustrated by her collection of Scottish landscapes, which reflect something of the majesty, grandeur and beauty of her native country, while world events, world travel and her christian faith have strongly influenced much of her artwork and in particular the original paintings in the ‘Works from Inspiration’ page.
As far back as she can remember Terry has been fascinated by the beauty, variety and colour she sees in the natural world. Early experiences at her grandparents Aberdeenshire farm, the colour, drama and atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands and islands, a post graduation visit to a vet friend in Kenya with its african wildlife, landscape and skies, all developed a deep emotional and spiritual desire to capture what she saw on paper and canvas. Five years at Glasgow School of Art provided the training to enable her to take full advantage of these formative experiences and more recent world wide travels have added an extra dimension to her work.
